Weekly Roundup 3 July 20

 

Wow, what a week this has been: on a personal front, my father had to have an emergency operation after he fell and broke his hip. I told him it was a bit of an extreme way to get a change of scenery and food. He did agree.

Welcome back everyone.

So many businesses have reopened so I’m going to do this by categories.

Hairdressers

I know that from tomorrow we will start to see people again with smart haircuts as most of our hairdressers are reopening.  You will need to ring them for an appointment.

We also welcome our latest hairdressers Luke Ormsby who at last is able to open

Restaurants

I have had confirmation that the following restaurants are reopening on the 4 July again you will need to book a table. Some might be fully booked.

  • Zaza
  • Yaprak
  • K5 Lounge
  • Sougtani
  • Augustina’s
  • Daisy’s in the park
  • Caffe Amici
  • Ahimsa the vegan cafe reopens 9 July
  • Friends are still doing deliver service while carrying out some refurbishments; they are planning to reopen in August
  • Pizza Express are planning to open late July

Unfortunnatley we have had confirmation that Cafe Rouge and Carluccio’s will not be reopening. I’m still trying to find out what Zizzi are doing.

Retailers

With so many of our local retailers have reopened that I don’t want to bore you with the complete list! Here are a few that have reopened.

  • The Print Shop – Lee has a new website for businesses that are in urgent need of anything printing to be done printshine.co.uk
  • B-away have reopened but with reduced hours
  • Passion Boutique are open and have a sale.
  • Saryan Picture Framing is now open but appointments only
  • Raydel Carpets have reopened but appointments only

BrOOK’s attended the virtual book awards this week as the London Regional Independent Book retailer of the year. Unfortunately they didn’t win but we must be proud of their achievement in such a short space of time.

All things health

Many of our opticians are again open but strictly appointments only. We have also received notification that the Pinner Osteopath is again operating.

Dentists are open but like West House Dental, it’s strictly appointments only

Kaylex have extended their opening hours.

All of the local pubs are scheduled to reopen on 6 July so you will have to wait a bit longer to test out the new rules.

Change of Hours

  • Beer Asylum have changed their opening times, they now open from 1pm.

Getting ready to reopen

  • Berkeley Square, Rumours and PSV Hair all re-open on the 4 July. (You can now make an appointment, but expect some delays)
  • Heath Robinson Museum is getting ready to re-open. It will be a continuation of the exhibition that was running prior to the lockdown.
  • The Oddfellows and Queen Head public houses have been busy redecorating and no doubt getting ready to reopen.
  • West House Dental are also making preparations to open

Test and Trace Scam – Warning

Test and Trace Scam Warning

Dear Watch Member,

We are warning residents to be aware that scammers are posing as NHS Test and Trace contact workers.

The new Test and Trace system is being rolled out across the country, meaning contact tracers are now getting in touch with those who have had recent close contact with people who have had a positive COVID-19 test.

However, it is important that people are aware that fraudsters are trying to take advantage of this process by posing as contact tracers and gathering personal information by deception.

Contact tracers will never:

  • ask you to dial a premium rate number to speak to them (for example, those starting 09 or 087)
  • ask you to make any form of payment
  • ask for any details about your bank account
  • ask for your social media identities or login details, or those of your contacts
  • ask you for any passwords or PINs, or ask you to set up any passwords or PINs over the phone
  • ask you to purchase a product
  • ask you to download any software to your device or ask you to hand over control of your PC, smartphone or tablet
  • ask you to access any website that does not belong to the Government or NHS.

Recycling Centre – change of hours from 15 June 2020

A message from Harrow Council – Good News.

The recycling centre goes back to normal from Monday 15 June – but still has some temporary measures.

It will no longer be by postcode but you must follow social distancing guidelines. We expect long waiting times – but plan ahead and check the queues online.

Consider whether coming to the tip is essential, and whether your visit can wait a few days.

✅Valid Photo ID (drivers licence) and proof of address required. Harrow residents only
✅ Opening hours go back to 8.30am to 4.30pm. One visit per day.
✅ Sort your waste and use the right bays
✅ Only 6 bays will be open to allow you to dispose waste

Beat the queues by coming at quieter times (usually late afternoons) or if you only have a few items save them for later in the week or the following week.

Only cars will be allowed in on the upper level.

⛔️ No trade waste, white goods or bulky waste will be accepted at present. This will be reviewed again in a fortnight.

Weekly Roundup 12 June 20

Life goes on…

The next big question to be asked is …    Will the Pinner Village Show that is organised by Pinner Rotary club go ahead? I have been informed that they are yet to make a final decision. Fingers Crossed.

Our local police are reminding drivers to ensure that they give cyclists plenty of space when overtaking them. (There’s a lot of new cyclists out there since the lockdown).

We’ve created two new pages in the COVID-19 section of our website, identifying those retailers that are currently closed. Hopefully as the months go by the lists on these pages will disappear as they reopen.

On the business front – shops reopened

  • Augustina’s have started trading again. You can order afternoon tea and cakes to take away.
  • Cake Box has also re-opened.
  • Mobile Connect on Bridge Street have re-opened
  • Shaketastic are trading
  • Spolit Rotten are also trading – (shame it’s just for dogs as I look like a shaggy dog in need of an urgent trim!)
  • Lillywhite, The Post Office/WH Smith and Barclays Bank have all extended their hours

On the business front – shops re-opening w/c 15 June

Next week the following shops will be re-opening (I suspect that there may be more)

  • BrOOK’s will reopen on June 16 at 10am. Yes, you will be able to get a take away coffee.
  • Clarks will be re-opening on Monday (This is a family run shop)
  • Café Sombra will be re-opening for take away on Monday.
  • West House Dental – are preparing to re-open. They are currently wading through a 52 page document of requirements to ensure that they can safely re-open. I suspect that this is the same with other dentist practices.
  • Pinner Village Hall, have started the planning process for when they are allowed to reopen.
