Libraries Research Questionaire 2018

Now that the Harrow borough libraries are back under the council’s in-house control, they are conducting some research to help them understand how to shape the future of the borough’s library service.

Harrow Council state that they would like to continue to modernise the service and improve its digital offer. They also want to make sure that opening hours meet the needs of residents. Completing this questionnaire will help the council plan revised opening hours and library services. They wish to find out:

Understand a bit more about how people use the libraries
How to offer an efficient library service for years to come
Find out how much people know about what the libraries offer
Find out which other services people might be interested in using at libraries in the future

Waxwell Lane Car Park – Film Base 4 October

We have received the following message from Harrow Council

Dear Sir / Madam

Apologies in advance for the short notice of this but this is to notify you that Waxwell Lane car park is being hired as a filming unit base on Thursday 4th October 2018. A commercial is being filmed (interior of a house) in a road nearby.

We have agreed that a row of bays in the car park will be made available to permit holders and disabled car users. The film company have also agreed to release bays if they are not in use during the day.

We do apologise for the inconvenience and we would advise members of the public to utilise the Chapel Lane car park as an alternative parking option.

Please do contact me should you wish to discuss, I’m happy to help.

Kind regards

Harrow Council – Project to improve “Environment Section of Website”

Harrow Council has started a new project to improve the “Environment Section” of their website.  At the moment this project is in its infancy.

I have been informed that they will be looking to talk to Park User Groups to obtain their ideas and well as members of the public.

This project will take between one and two years before the changes go live.  At some stage they may request that “Joe Public” gets involved in the testing of this website.

Reporting Issues In Parks & Open Spaces

Good News. We have been liaising with Harrow Council to enable issues with our parks etc to be reported via their website.

This morning their new on-line form went live. Follow the link

Report Park Issues

There are a few missing parks which I have requested that they add to the drop down list. These are:-

Montesoles PF, Roxbourne Park, Little Common Pinner, The Croft, and Pinner Recreation Ground.

Finalists at Harrow Heroes Awards

Last night four of the committee attended the 11th Harrow Heroes awards.

I am proud to announce that we were finalists this year.  This award is for all of our volunteers that help make things happen in and around Pinner – thank you and well done.

I’m also proud to announce that our Honorary Secretary Ruff Both was a finalist in the Long Service award. Unfortunately she wasn’t there to collect her certificate.

Well done Ruth for all of your hard work.

Advertisement Banners on Lamp Posts!

Pinner Association have received notification of two planning applications for placing advertising Banners on the lampposts in Marsh Road between East Cote Road and Station Approach and Bridge Street plus part of Love Lane up to Bishops walk. These will be the same size as those used for the London 2012 Olympics.

Harrow Council is planning to rent out the banners for commercial advertising.

If these applications are passed we are uncertain whether we will be able to erect the Christmas Lights as we have been informed that it is advertising banners OR lights – not both.

We are also concerned about:

  • The excessive street cluster and the fact that they could be a distraction to drivers etc.
  • It would hide existing signage for Car Parks and Heath Robinson Museum.
  • The flowers baskets currently on the lamp posts would need to be permanently removed.
  • Loss of view for CCTV cameras.

If you wish to add your comments the planning applications are

  • P/3752/18 – Bridge Street
  • P/3753/18 – Marsh Road

Comment online

There are similar planning applications for lamppost banners in North Harrow, Hatch End, and Rayners Lane.

Volunteers needed

Pinner Panto committee are looking for volunteers to help stewarding on the evening of the 29th November.

If you can only spare 1 hour that would be wonderful!. I personally look forward to stewarding each year – especially the zebra crossing duty.

If you are able to help, leave a message/comment with your name, email address and/or phone number and we will forward it to the organising committee.
