Starting Monday 18th the tip will open for essential use only!
The Recycling centre opens on Monday 18 May with each day allocated to a Harrow postcode
From Monday, you’ll be able to use the recycling centre on Forward Drive but you must only visit the tip if it is not possible to manage your waste through collections. We are urging everyone to utilise their recycling, food and general waste and only use the tip if it absolutely essential.
Open from 8am to 6pm, access to tip is by post code only which is allocated to each day. You will be turned away if you come on any other day. These are temporary measures that will be reviewed in the coming weeks. The last entry to the tip is 5.30.

- Saturday HA0, HA4, HA6, HA8, NW9, UB5, WD2
- Sunday Key workers, NHS and Emergency Services
You must show ID and proof of address upon arrival – i.e. council tax bill, utility bill, driving license, NHS/emergency services ID.
Please sort your waste before you come (i.e. into household, garden, recycling). We’ll have a guide available shortly on what you can and can’t bring to the site.
Only cars will be allowed for the current time and only one person will be allowed to out their car to dispose of waste – this is to keep social distancing.
HS2 Works Update
HS2 Works Update: Tunnel boring machine power supply works restarting in Pinner South from 18th May
UKPN will be starting work on digging trenches and laying ducts that will hold the tunnel boring machine power cable from the 18th May. During the Covid-19 pandemic they will prioritise road junctions due to vehicle numbers being significantly reduced at the moment, which will help to relieve causing congestion when traffic levels return to normal. This phase of the scheme should take place until July. For more information see:
The affected road junctions in Pinner South will be:
- Rayners Lane roundabout to Whittington Way
- Whittington Way
- Junction between Cannon Lane and Cannonbury Avenue
Once these main junctions are complete UKPN will look to continue the work along the rest of the planned route. This work will not affect the electricity supply in the area. For more information on these works including a map of the route, please see:

Gosh what a difference a week makes!
V.E. day celebrations continued in Pinner although confined to residents’ front gardens. It was wonderful to see all the smart china come out for afternoon tea and people having conversations across the fence panels or from the pavement.
Lindy-hop was filmed on the High Street by Kara (and her partner) of Lines of Pinner. This was definitely something that could not have happened without the lockdown.
For those of you that are members; work has started to produce the July edition of the magazine. During WWII it was published and so see no difference now.
On a business front…..

Garden Waste Service to Restart
Good News. We have been informed that the paid garden waste collections are due to restart week commencing 11 May 20. There will be a refund of £9 (not certain if that is per bin or household)
The council are currently working on a plan to open the recycling depot – exact date unknown.

As we enter our eigth week of lockdown, here is a summary of what has been happening.
Whilst we may not be holding committee meetings due to the current situation, committee members are busy looking at all of the planning applications being submitted and answering emails/phone calls to do with this area. It’s a case of out of sight but not out of action.
The new answer to “how are you” when shouted across the street is “I’m surviving”
For those worried about shopping in busy supermarkets don’t forget you can Google the shop and get an indication of how busy they are.
On a business front.
Camillia’s lingerie might be closed but they are still operating on-line
Jafvans have reopened their Harrow office. Their hours are Monday, Wednesday & Friday 9am to 2pm. Having spoken to them, their hours might expand depending on demand.
We understand that Ideal Fish Bar will be re-opening its doors on Thursday 7 May – watch this space as we obtain more information.

Outbuilding Security Advice
Dear Watch Member,
As the weather starts to become warmer (although not in May according to the weather forecasts!), people confined to home are spending a lot of time in their gardens using gardening tools and leisure equipment, which are often left out or stored in outbuildings.
Burglars tend to target sheds, garages and outbuildings at this time of year looking for valuable power tools, bikes and other expensive items.
We recommend that everyone takes some basic security measures to make sure their gardens and outbuildings are secure. Leaving tools and gardening equipment lying around in your garden can attract thieves, as they are valuable and could also be used to break into your home.
Locking tools away in a shed or garage when you are not using them and making outbuildings as secure as possible, with strong locks or even an alarmed padlock, will help keep your property safe. Dusk till dawn security lights in your garden will make your home even safer, along with locking windows, doors and garden gates and making sure your fences are in a good condition.

Weekly COVID-19 Round up 26 April 2020
While we settled down to the inevitable of the lock down being extended, and resigned ourselves to a necessary evil of limiting our freedom. We have a change of leader at the helm of The Pinner Association.
Christine Wallace who has been chairman for the past three years has stepped down having completed her term of office. We would like to thank Christine for her stewardship of The Pinner Association, a task she has undertaken with a great sense of responsibility to do our best to maintain and enhance the amenity of all in Pinner. As Chairman of the Association she has taken a particular interest in planning matters and the upkeep of parks, open spaces and allotments. Christine is to continue to cover “Planning” and “Environment” for the Association as a Committee Member. She will also continue to be our representative on Harrow Council’s Conservation Areas Advisory Committee.
Due to the fact our AGM was postponed, Julie Waller has agreed to be Acting-Chair until such times as we can safely hold our AGM.
On a business front.
- Sougtani (TMP London’s Best Restaurant Regional Winners for 2018) are now open for deliveries and take-away. Good news for those that are getting feed up of home cooking and fancy a change.
- Friends Restaurant are also open for deliveries only.

- Peter Brooks of Brooks Pinner was heard talking to Jo Good on BBC Radio London about being regional winners at the recent British Book Awards. They might be closed but you can order on line.
- Bodywise have informed me that they have several types of hand sanitizers and facemasks available.
