Weekly Roundup 12 June 20

Life goes on…

The next big question to be asked is …    Will the Pinner Village Show that is organised by Pinner Rotary club go ahead? I have been informed that they are yet to make a final decision. Fingers Crossed.

Our local police are reminding drivers to ensure that they give cyclists plenty of space when overtaking them. (There’s a lot of new cyclists out there since the lockdown).

We’ve created two new pages in the COVID-19 section of our website, identifying those retailers that are currently closed. Hopefully as the months go by the lists on these pages will disappear as they reopen.

On the business front – shops reopened

  • Augustina’s have started trading again. You can order afternoon tea and cakes to take away.
  • Cake Box has also re-opened.
  • Mobile Connect on Bridge Street have re-opened
  • Shaketastic are trading
  • Spolit Rotten are also trading – (shame it’s just for dogs as I look like a shaggy dog in need of an urgent trim!)
  • Lillywhite, The Post Office/WH Smith and Barclays Bank have all extended their hours

On the business front – shops re-opening w/c 15 June

Next week the following shops will be re-opening (I suspect that there may be more)

  • BrOOK’s will reopen on June 16 at 10am. Yes, you will be able to get a take away coffee.
  • Clarks will be re-opening on Monday (This is a family run shop)
  • Café Sombra will be re-opening for take away on Monday.
  • West House Dental – are preparing to re-open. They are currently wading through a 52 page document of requirements to ensure that they can safely re-open. I suspect that this is the same with other dentist practices.
  • Pinner Village Hall, have started the planning process for when they are allowed to reopen.

Weekly Roundup 2 June 20

Yes, I’m late. Birthday celebrations and at last being able to see my father for the first time since February got in the way.
This week saw the announcement that the annual Band Concerts in the Park that we organise have been cancelled. For those of you that missed the post – this is why.

“Unfortunately we have made the tough decision to cancel this year’s Band Concerts. Harrow Council has banned all events on public land for the foreseeable future. The Bands wouldn’t be able to practice and lastly we took a pragmatic view that when the lockdown is eased, it might be a while before large gatherings are again permitted. Don’t worry, like Pinner Fair, this is a one off occurrence. Hopefully normal service will continue next year and we can all enjoy music wafting across the park.”

On the business front

  • Daisy’s In the Park have reopened 7 days a week so that those of using the park can now have a take-away. Please remember to take the rubbish home with you if the bins are full.
  • Foodiewuwdies have re-opened be it reduced hours but its good so see them return.
  • The Heath Robinson Museum shop is now operating again on-line.
  • Smart Guys Professional Dry Cleaners are open with reduced hours but these might be extended in the future.
  • Pinner News once again raised their shutters for business, so those of you that have been trying to pay your bills can pop down to the shop in the morning.
  • CC Vassar have also extended their opening hours, this will be a relief to those that aren’t good at getting up early in the morning.
  • Pinner Green MOT Centre are operating as well as West End Lane Motors

For all the latest times visit our COVID-19 section of the website

If you spot any differences of business trading hours please let me know.  Thanks

Weekly Roundup 20 May 20

Sorry, it’s a bit late but I had more pressing things to do.

  • I think that there is no need to remind you that the annual Pinner Fair has been cancelled for this year.
  • Well done to West Lodge School and “the mum of the little man in the orange coat” for making it onto the good deed page of the Metro paper. It’s good to have something positive to write about.
  • The last week has seen the Recycling Centre reopen on a rota basis. For those of you in HA5 postcode area; Thursday is our day for getting down the tip.  Don’t forget to bring with you some ID showing that you live in HA5, (some coffee/tea for the long wait!).
  • Public tennis courts reopened. You can only play singles and if it’s busy play for a maximum of 1 hour. You must bring your own equipment and adhere to social distancing as much as possible.
  • For those of you subscribed to garden waste collection, don’t forget to leave your bin out with its new sticker.
  • HS2 cabling work in Pinner South ward has restarted.

On the Business front

Our local estate agents are operating again. I would suggest that you phone then to find out about their social distancing procedures. David Charles & Robson procedures are displayed on our website. COVID-19 Local Retailers.

Weekly Roundup 11 May 2020

Gosh what a difference a week makes!

V.E. day celebrations continued in Pinner although confined to residents’ front gardens.  It was wonderful to see all the smart china come out for afternoon tea and people having conversations across the fence panels or from the pavement.

Lindy-hop was filmed on the High Street by Kara (and her partner) of Lines of Pinner.  This was definitely something that could not have happened without the lockdown.

For those of you that are members; work has started to produce the July edition of the magazine. During WWII it was published and so see no difference now.

On a business front…..

Good news from BrOOK’s; you are now able to order more than one book at a time.

Last week saw more eateries re-open for business:

These were

  • Ideal Fish Bar
  • Caffè Nero
  • K5 Lounge
  • Sakee

Check out our COVID-19 Restaurant Section of the website for their hours. Hallmark cards temporarily opened only to be told they needed to close.

Other shops to open with changed operating times are the

  • Beer Asylum
  • Jafvans
  • Lines of Pinner
  • Pinner Village Store

Check out the COVID-19 Local Retailers section of our website.

We look forward to the day when all the shops can reopen.  (I for one can’t wait until Berkeley Square reopens as I am badly in need of a haircut. (It’s been over 11 weeks since my last cut and I’m definitely looking wild!)

Weekly COVID-19 Round up 4 May 2020

Weekly Round up

As we enter our eigth week of lockdown, here is a summary of what has been happening.

Whilst we may not be holding committee meetings due to the current situation, committee members are busy looking at all of the planning applications being submitted and answering emails/phone calls to do with this area. It’s a case of out of sight but not out of action.

The new answer to “how are you” when shouted across the street is “I’m surviving”

For those worried about shopping in busy supermarkets don’t forget you can Google the shop and get an indication of how busy they are.

On a business front.

Camillia’s lingerie might be closed but they are still operating on-line

Jafvans have reopened their Harrow office. Their hours are Monday, Wednesday & Friday 9am to 2pm. Having spoken to them, their hours might expand depending on demand.

We understand that Ideal Fish Bar will be re-opening its doors on Thursday 7 May – watch this space as we obtain more information.

If there are other local shops that are open that we might have missed from our page or shops that  have changed their opening hours; please let us know by emailing [email protected]

Weekly COVID-19 Round up 26 April 2020

While we settled down to the inevitable of the lock down being extended, and resigned ourselves to a necessary evil of limiting our freedom.  We have a change of leader at the helm of The Pinner Association.

Christine Wallace who has been chairman for the past three years has stepped down having completed her term of office.   We would like to thank Christine for her stewardship of The Pinner Association, a task she has undertaken with a great sense of responsibility to do our best to maintain and enhance the amenity of all in Pinner.  As Chairman of the Association she has taken a particular interest in planning matters and the upkeep of parks, open spaces and allotments.   Christine is to continue to cover “Planning” and “Environment” for the Association as a Committee Member.  She will also continue to be our representative on Harrow Council’s Conservation Areas Advisory Committee.

Due to the fact our AGM was postponed, Julie Waller has agreed to be Acting-Chair until such times as we can safely hold our AGM.

On a business front.

  • Sougtani  (TMP London’s Best Restaurant Regional Winners for 2018) are now open for deliveries and take-away. Good news for those that are getting feed up of home cooking and fancy a change.
  • Friends Restaurant are also open for deliveries only.

Check our COVID-19 restaurant page for a list of all restaurants offering delivery or take away service.

  • Peter Brooks of Brooks Pinner was heard talking to Jo Good on BBC Radio London about being regional winners at the recent British Book Awards. They might be closed but you can order on line.
  • Bodywise have informed me that they have several types of hand sanitizers and facemasks available.

If there are other local shops that are open that we might have missed from our page or shops that  have changed their opening hours; please let us know by emailing [email protected]
