Pinner Memorial Park Playground As users will know, the playground in the Pinner Memorial Park has been extended and new equipment installed. Contrary to rumour, the Council, NOT the Pinner Association, was responsible for the design. The Association shares the concern of those using the playground about its safety. We do not understand why it is no longer fenced to keep the children safe and dogs out. Nor do we understand why there is no path for pushchairs between the old and new play areas. We have drawn these and other deficiencies to the attention of the Council. Summer comes to Pinner and so does the French Market

Many collections and fundraising events raise money for headline charities like, the British Heart Foundation, the Parkinson’s Disease Society, Diabetes UK and Teenage Cancer Trust. Indeed we are pleased to have raised money for, and donated to, these charities in the past. The Rotary Club of Pinner also gives smaller donations to many more local, national and international charities, many of which are indeed smaller charities but still need support. Sainsbury’s Store in Pinner very kindly allowed us to raise money for these causes by collecting for our “General Charity Fund” on Friday (18th June) and Saturday (19th June). The World Cup may have distracted some but our collectors were out there trying to make a difference and trying to “put a little back” – or were they really trying to take their minds off the performance of the England team? Once again we were extremely heartened by the response of the public and customers of Sainsbury’s who donated to this collection and together with the Gift Aid refunds due (from the Inland Revenue) just on donations made over these two days we raised £1030. We would like to thank everyone for their support. Pinner Fair 2010
The sun and the crowds were out for Pinner Fair, the traditional street fair held in the heart of Pinner each year. After much discussion and uncertainty, Bridge Street and the High Street were again filled with fun and excitement, as well as loud music, stomach churning funfair rides, and the distinctive mingled aroma of burger vans and diesel fumes. It was noticeable that there were a fewer attractions than was common some years ago, and the lower half of the High Street was almost empty of rides and stalls. However, Bridge Street was filled by the amazingly large funfair rides; the skill of the Showmen in manoeuvring these into position must be admired. One “attraction” was a very tall beam, which left its willing victims seated high above the crowds; the view from this vantage point must have been wonderful if you had a good head for heights. The rides were well sited with spaces left for access to those local businesses which braved the noise and kafuffle and opened for a least part of the day. The ambulance service was on site, and police were patrolling the area, with two very tall “cherry-picker” platforms for CCTV surveillance were sited at the top of the High Street and Bridge Street. So a good day was had by all, and at least for 2010 the tradition of Pinner Fair has continued in its current form. Daisy's café up and running in West House On 1st June the new café opened in West House, Pinner and was immediately well patronised. David Rowlands Sad news to report. Support the Eradication of Polio Worldwide
Rotary International and Rotary clubs around the World have been a driving force in this campaign since 1985 and in February this year Rotary Clubs throughout the UK together with both Sainsburys and Tesco collected money to further advance the fight against Polio. In addition the Bill Gates has joined the fight and is adding a £ for every £ we raise! The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has committed $200m to this and he was so impressed with the work being done in Afghanistan, India, Nigeria and Pakistan that he has added a further $155m!
Pinner Rotary has made a substantial contributtion, collecting over £1,000 which with the top up from Bill Gates and gift aid allowance grossed some £2k.

Pinner Revels in the Snow . The 6th January saw the children of Pinner besporting themselves in the Memorial Park as they were unable to attend school nearby at West Lodge. Great to see them indulging in some healthy exercise in conditions that may be experienced only once in the entire span of their schooldays.

The frozen North came to Pinner for the five days the Rotary Club was collecting, outside Marks and Spencer Simply Food Store in Pinner prior to Christmas. It was the generosity of the people of Pinner rather than the bright yellow tabards that kept the collectors sunny and warm. £2,826 was collected, which with the addition of Gift Aid, raised close to £3,000. Proceeds from this collection and other fund raising events during the year were split 50:50 between the Teenage Cancer Trust and a selection of Local Youth Charities and Good Causes . . The best costume awards went to Bodywise and Monkey Business. Local schools played a great part in the event. Choral and musical entertainment was provided by many local schools including Buckingham College, West Lodge, Pinner Park, Pinner Wood, Reddiford and Nower Hill and by other groups. The evening was rounded off with a spectacular fireworks display. . Gibbs Gillespie won the Window Dressing Award with the RSPCA being Runners Up . The Rotary Club of Pinner celebrated its 66th Anniversary on 3rd November at Northwood Golf Club without a speech, substituting something far better. Pinner Free Church Celebration . In October the Pinner Free Church commemorated the laying of the foundation stones, unveiled the new Centenary Stone and buried a 'Time Capsule' in the ground. Fortunately burglaries in the area are still a relatively rare occurrence, however there have been some recent incidents when car keys have been hooked through the letter box of houses using bamboo, and cars are subsequently stolen from the drive. These offences usually take place at night. Please do not leave your car keys near the front door of your house, and make sure they are not visible from the letter box or windows. You may wish to consider fitting a cage inside your letter box to prevent anybody reaching in. Now that the darker evenings are upon us we should all be especially aware of home and car security and take all necessary precautions. . French Market brings crowds to Bridge Street again

The MerryDowners Morris Dancers, Attwirlettes Majorettes, the Harrow Concert Band and the Tug of War events kept the crowds well and truly entertained as did the stalls such as the Pinner & Ruislip beekeepers and the Middlesex Federation of Wine and Beer Makers.

Lorraine Edwards with Patrick Cullen PHEOS Players Win Major Award PHEOS Players have just won the prestigious Flame award at the National Operatic & Dramatic Association regional conference for their recent production of “Follies”, "catching the glamour, the nostalgia, the angst and the song and dance through superb performances by main principals, individual performers-of-old and their younger counterparts." As a local amateur group they are very interested in building on this success by recruiting new members. The picture below gives a flavour of the show. Harrow Council Rewrites the History of Pinner . Last year the post Office renamed 'Bridge Street' 'Bridge Road', now the Council has rewritten the history of Pinner's Memorial Park on a splendid and obviously expensive board at entrances to the Memorial Park. The caption below purports to describe its history, but your Editor believes this really describes that of Headstone Manor. A pity too that West House is not identified on the plan, but at least it was not called Headstone Manor.

A new section has been added to the Web Site under the heading 'Current Issues'. We aim to publicise progress or lack therof from time to time. Do visit and let us have your feedback. Police Advice: Beware Bogus Callers There has been a rise in ‘distraction’ and ‘walk-in’ burglaries, where offenders are posing as: 1) Police Officers - Stating there is a gas leak outside and needing access to the premises to prevent an explosion. 2) Water Board - Calling at flats saying there is water leaking into flat below and needing to turn off the supply. 3) Workmen - Asking if there is any garden or interior jobs needing their attention. 4) Female with a baby - Asking if she could fill the baby’s bottle with water. Offenders have also been walking into addresses when occupants have opened the door without using their safety chain and thus taking items from within. Suspects are male and female aged between 16 - 45.The police would ask occupants: 1) Not to answer the door to strangers, without using their safety chains. 2) Always Ask for ID and check ID carefully. 3) Ask for caller's office number to check their credentials. The Police would like you to report any suspicious callers immediately to the police calling 999. Remember do not let anyone into your premises until you are happy with who they are.
