London New Year’s Day Parade –  Harrow CAN CAN

Get your dancing shoes on and join Harrow Borough on 1 January 2018 for the London New Year’s Day Parade.

Harrow’s going all out this year and their Moulin Rouge float is going to be the biggest showstopper, guaranteed to blow your mind and get everyone in the party mood!

That’s right they’re bringing the beloved Parisian cabaret into the heart of London this New Year and with the theme of ‘Showtime’, be prepared to be dazzled! Handcrafted by volunteers from Wiseworks and Nower Hill High School, there’s no way you’ll miss Harrow’s Moulin Rouge inspired float. It features the iconic red windmill at an impressive 6 metres high, flashing lights and dancers all dressed up in the fiery theme!

Volunteers from Wiseworks and Nower Hill High School have spent the last three months designing and building the float and are now adding the final touches to what promises to be a showstopper!  They will also be taking part in the parade and will be accompanied by Beverley School of Dance, the Kodak Football Club, and Cllrs John Hinkley and Jean Lammiman who have worked so hard in preparing and organising this year’s entry.

The London New Year’s Day Parade is a free event expected to feature more than 10,000 performers. It begins midday on Monday 1 January in Piccadilly and ends around 3.30pm at Parliament Street.

You can support Harrow’s entry by donating to the Mayor’s chosen charities Harrow Women Centre and Harrow Law Centre – for more information email The Mayor’s Office [email protected].

Waxwell Lane Car Park Redevelopment Planning Application

A planning application to redevelop the Waxwell Lane Car Park was published on 22nd December, just before the Christmas break. The proposal is for: “Redevelopment of Car Park to Provide 20 Three Storey Dwellinghouses (Use Class C3) (14 X 3 Bedroom Houses & 6 X 4 Bedroom Houses), Associated Car & Cycle Parking Refuse Storage, Landscaping & Replacement Boundary Treatment”. The plans show that there would be 20 parking spaces provided for the residents of the new houses, but there would be no public parking on the site.

The Pinner Ward councillors knew that this application was likely to be submitted very near to the “festive season” and managed to gain a concession from the Harrow Council Planning Services department such that 32 days will be allowed for public comment rather than the usual 21 days, due to the holiday period. This means the deadline for comments to be received will be 21st January.

Like many who live and / or work in Pinner, the Pinner Association Committee members hold a wide range of views on the merit or otherwise of the proposed development of the Waxwell Lane Car Park.   Therefore, there will be no comment submitted by the “Pinner Association Committee” to this application.   However, we do urge all those interested in the future of Pinner to submit their own, informed, comments. There have been several public “consultations” held on the plans for the car park over the past two years, and a “Residents’ Reference Group” has given their views on aspects of the development to the architects. To have the most impact, any comments should be based on the plans submitted and be on relevant “planning” grounds.

Pinner Panto: A Night To Remember!

This year’s Pinner Panto organised by the “Pinner Panto Commitee” will certainly be one to remember. It was briefly interrupted by a car catching fire on Bridge Street – luckily no one was hurt and the police and fire brigade quickly bought the situation under control. Stewards were seen directing traffic to turn round using Station Approach to ease congestion as Bridge Street was closed to traffic.

The Mayor of Harrow started proceedings at 5pm by switching on the Christmas tree lights in the High Street and Bridge Street Pinner – the Pinner Association pays for all the festive lights in Pinner. MP Nick Hurd was also seen wandering around the Panto.

The Mayor, along with The Pearly King & Queen, judged the window dressing competition, which is sponsored by Northwood & Pinner Business Club. The winners were The Heath Robinson Museum, Robson Estate Agents & Andrew Pearce; four other shops got highly commended. It was wonderful to see new traders taking part.

Lule Hair & Beauty, Eyesey & Osteria Modigliani, “Mad Hatters’ Tea Party”

The winners of the “Traders Fancy Dress Competition” that The Pinner Association sponsors saw Earth White, Dri & the trio of Lule Hair & Beauty, Eyesey & Osteria Modigliani (see photo) all win.

Visitors were regaled by different school choirs singing during the course of the evening.

It was great to see many different parts of the community volunteer as stewards including six formers from Hatch End High School. This event couldn’t happen without the army of volunteers and the hard work of the Panto Committee. Thank you everyone.
